Rusatom Healthcare and CK3 signed a PDA for the implementation of the Irradiation Center in Brazil

16.05.2018

ROSATOM, through its subsidiary, Rusatom Healthcare (RHC), and the Brazilian company CK3 signed a Project Development Agreement (PDA) for the joint implementation and operation of an Irradiation Center in Brazil. The document was signed by the RHC’s CEO Denis Cherednichenko, from Russian side, and by CK3’s director Raphael Guiguer, from Brazilian side.

Over several months, the parties have thoroughly studied the market needs, regulations, technological alternatives, among other key aspects to develop the most advanced solution for the local clients. The project also has the support of the State Government's investment promotion and competitiveness agency, Investe São Paulo, which is responsible for interlocution with government entities, strategic information and issues of environmental licensing, taxation and infrastructure.

The PDA sets the roadmap of the formation of a joint company aimed to offer irradiation services to the Brazilian market. The joint venture will use Russian technologies based on electron accelerators and x-rays for sterilization of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and healthcare products, among other industrial applications.

The project combines, on one side, Russia’s competences and achievements in the radiation technology field, and the local expertise in the country’s market, on the Brazilian side. The experiences of RHC and CK3 are aimed to offer high quality services to clients following Rosatom’s strategy to increase its participation in the Latin American market.

“Our joint venture is bringing an attractive alternative to the Brazilian market with an environmentally friendly solution.”, explains Raphael Guiguer, project director at CK3. Unlike other sterilization methods, x-ray and electron accelerators do not release toxic gases nor generate any waste. “We look forward to the next steps to start offering services to clients.”

"We see great potential in the Brazilian market in the field of medical products sterilization by radiation." The use of radiation technologies in the Brazilian health area can significantly improve the safety and quality of goods and services. Hermetically packaged medical products can be effectively sterilized, which reduces the risk of contamination in the production phase. Products treated with the radiation sterilization method will also increase the export potential of Brazilian companies engaged in the production of medical goods," said Denis Cherednichenko.

“We have been studying the irradiation market for some time, and despite being relevant in the world, it has little investment in our country. The potential of this sector led to our investment decision to diversify our portfolio”, says Rodrigo Cherkezian, CK3’s director for investor relations.

“We firmly believe that after many negotiations we found the right partner because Rosatom has advanced technologies in this field and at the same time has well recognized international presence”, - adds Cherkezian.

Rusatom Healthcare JSC was established by the subsidiary of ROSATOM for purposes of development and production of equipment and radionuclide products for nuclear medicine and medical radiology, as well as industrial equipment and sterilization solutions for processing different types of products with ionizing radiation on the basis of electron-beam and gamma-ray installations.
